There are few specialized burrowing lizards in this region, but burrowing snakes are common. Birds such as eagles, owls, woodpeckers and crossbills characterize this ecosystem. The protected area extends along the valley of the river Eume within the Ferrolterra municipalities of Pontedeume, Cabanas, A Capela, Monfero and As Pontes de Garca Rodrguez. This, along with the constant moist conditions, makes ideal conditions for seeds to germinate.
